Follow Your Heart has come out with a vegan egg product that can be used to make realistic omelets. It's not yet available in stores here -- but maybe if enough of us ask for it, we'll have it in Lawrence sooner rather than later. In the meantime, you can purchase it online (Follow Your Heart's site links to on-line retailers who are selling it.)
The photo on the left is from the folks at Vegan Street, and if you hop on over to their site, you can get their recipe for making this omelet and read their full review of the product. This is actually a pretty exciting development. Because in spite of egg industry shenanigans (backed by big money) the truth about just how unhealthy eggs are is starting to become known. The egg industry has funded so much biased research -- carefully constructed to make eggs look safe. But in fact, overwhelming science (not funded by the industry) suggests that even eating a single egg a week, may increase one's risk of developing type two diabetes. And that's not all, egg consumption increases the risk of heart disease - which by the way, one of the earlier warning symptoms in men is impotence. So for men who want to stay really manly -- they just might want to switch out eating the cholesterol laden by-products of the chicken's menstrual cycle for this safer plant based alternative!
