Of all the new products I sampled at the HUGE Asheville VeganFest...one in particular stood out as something I needed to tell everyone about. It's a delicious new product called "Hempe." The sample I tasted was air fried with very little oil, and used no additional seasonings and was AMAZING!
Even better --- now my soy-allergic friends have yet another terrific vegan protein to enjoy -- that is entirely free of soy products!

I bought this package here at the festival (it has "FARB PAID" on it because I had them hold it for me in their coolers a bit before I was ready to trek it back to my
car and put it in my own cooler.)
When I came home and searched for it on line, I was only able to find their old website which obviously hadn't been updated, but then I found that some of their products were for sale at Lucky Vitamin. It appears that recently they changed their product's name from "Hempeh" to "Hempe" and the newer name is not coming up well in the search engines. At first I was unable find their most current website. Later, I was going through the bag of information I had collected at the veganfest, and I came upon a sticker they had given me which listed their NEW WEBSITE, and that is where I read that Hempe will soon be for sale at Whole Foods. So it should be much easier to get this product very soon.
Here is what the back of the box I got looks like -- showing the ingredients list:

I like that the product has an organic and gluten-free label claim. I do hope that the company will also get it labeled non-GMO project verified too, as the organic label alone is does not assure me that no GMO-soy inadvertently got used to make it. It's probably too high in salt and fat (from coconut oil) for those with certain health conditions to eat, but I can think of many people who will love this product, and find it a delicious new option, with a much lower carbon and water footprint than anything coming from an animal.
One caveat however...I see that their original hempe products were made with peanuts, which does seem contrary to their newer marketing focus of this being a major allergen-free food. I have no idea if they are still making any products with peanuts, and if they are, what assurances they can give that cross contamination is not an issue for those with peanut allergy. If peanut allergies are a concern for you, I'd suggest contacting the company directly.
